Tagging your luggage

  • You will be provided with a set of luggage tags for the trip.
  • Please ensure that your luggage tags are attached to all your bags.
  • All luggage to be in good condition, e.g., no loose ends, broken handles, tears, broken wheels.
  • When you pick up your luggage, check that you have your own bag before leaving the airport luggage carousel.
  • If your bag is damaged or tampered with during the flight or if luggage is missing, you must inform one of the Travel Team before leaving the luggage collection area so that a claim can be submitted.

Check-in suitcase

  • Regional flights to Johannesburg: Baggage allowance is 1 x suitcase (22kg) per person.
  • Flights on Emirates: Maximum Weight for Economy Class Passengers: 2 bags of 23kg per bag per passenger.
  • Flight on Vueling (from Vienna to Barcelona): Maximum weight: 1 bag of 25kg per passenger.
  • Liquids, perfumes, creams, sharp objects (nail files, nail clippers, scissors) to be packed in the check-in luggage.

Hand luggage (to take inside the plane)

  • 1 x hand luggage item per person not exceeding 55x40x23cm and 7kg.
  • Any medicine, travel documents, jewellery, camera, a change of clothes and other similar personal belongings to be packed in hand luggage.
  • Leave the expensive jewellery in the safe back home – you do not need it on the trip.

Do not use all your full weight allowance on departure if you intend to do shopping. Excess baggage charges are VERY expensive.

  • Airlines are very strict on the weight allowed in terms of luggage.
  • DO NOT exceed the airline weight limit per person – charges will without exception be for your own account.

It is recommended that you protect your luggage to avoid any damages during the flights and for security reasons:

  • Buy a luggage glove (it has a security lock) at any luggage store which you can use for the multiple flights during your trip, or
  • Plastic wrap your suitcase at the airport before checking in for your flight.

Flights to Johannesburg – remember to collect your luggage on arrival at OR Tambo Airport and checked-in at the Emirates check-in counters for the flight to Vienna.

Meals & Refreshments

Economy class: A hot meal service is offered with a choice of two meals which normally include the hot meal, fresh fruits, or a salad, crackers and cheese, a bread roll as well as a dessert. Breakfast normally includes fresh seasonal fruit, yoghurt, a bread roll, and a hot meal. The menu is prepared on the base of the best international dishes with an Asian flair. 

Refreshments will be served during meals, soft drinks and water are available throughout the flight

Dubai Airport

Dubai Airport, also known as Dubai International Airport, is one of the busiest and most modern airports in the world. Located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, it serves as a major hub for international travel, connecting passengers to various destinations around the globe. The airport features state-of-the-art facilities, including multiple terminals, luxurious lounges, and a wide range of dining and shopping options. It offers a seamless travel experience with efficient immigration processes and excellent connectivity to the city centre. Dubai Airport is known for its impressive infrastructure, advanced technology, and world-class amenities, making it a gateway to the dynamic city of Dubai.

What to expect when arriving in Dubai

  • Arrivals at Dubai International Airport will either land and disembark at one of the air-conditioned walkway bridges leading directly into the terminal building or in an area some distance away from the terminal building where a bus will be provided to transport passengers to the arrival’s terminal at Dubai Airport.
  • Follow the overhead signs to International Connections.  You will have to clear another security check on your way to the boarding gate of the flight to Vienna.
  • Look out for the Standard Bank signage once you have disembarked the aircraft or bus. If you are confident, you are welcome to make your way to the next boarding gate on your own, or you can wait for the rest of the group in the passenger corridor. 
  • Dubai Airport is big and busy, we might have to do some walking or make use of the internal train system to get to our next boarding gate. If you have difficulty walking, please inform us well in advance so that we can arrange assistance for you.
  • Once everyone has disembarked, we will make our way through to our next boarding gate.
  • Please set your watches to Dubai local time (Dubai is two hours ahead of South Africa). Flight departs at 08:55 Dubai time

Vienna Airport

Vienna Airport, officially known as Vienna International Airport, is the largest airport in Austria and serves as a vital transportation hub for travellers visiting Vienna and the surrounding region. Located in Schwechat, just outside the city, it offers convenient access to the Austrian capital. The airport features modern facilities, including multiple terminals, shops, restaurants, and comfortable lounges. What to expect when arriving in Vienna

  • Once you have disembarked, look out for the Standard Bank signage.
  • If you are confident, you can continue and follow the signs to Passport Control and Luggage Collection or you can wait for the rest of the group
  • After Passport Control, continue to the Luggage Collection where you will have to collect your bags.
  • Once you have collected your luggage, please wait for the rest of the group, before we continue to the Arrivals Hall.
  • The transfer to our lunch venue is approximately 30 minutes.
